Welcome to MERCTEP (pronounced: MERK-tep).

Emerging from the quietude of hypersleep and the vast emptiness of the deep space between habitable worlds, your craft approaches the planet MERCTEP within the Cerillian Deepfall System.

From it's orbit, you can surmise that MERCTEP is a unique world teeming with strange organisms. Greenish oceans are viewed from your viewscreen and there are yellowish clouds drifting above many-colored land-masses. MERCTEP exists in a multi-stellar system, thus giving it a fairly long year around both stars. MERCTEP's two moons, M1 and M2, are both much smaller than the moons of Homeworld. The planet has five major landmasses scattered over the globe and an average surface temperature of about 52° Fahrenheit. This temperature has been fairly stable over the last several millennia, so MERCTEP experiences low levels of geological activity in only a few hotspots.

Your craft first passes through a deep layer of liquid rain bursting high and low in the atmosphere. The bodies of tiny squeaking birdlike insects tap against the surface of the glass. They skitter in swilring swarms down and away into the sky.

The landing craft settles in the Temerurian Crystalline Forest. The crimson and violet of both stars gleam magnificiently through the semi-transparent structures of the crystal plantlife. Many of the crystals stand hundreds of feet tall. The fluttering Klakruts spend most of their lives spinning giant webs between the branches.

Your versatile landing vehicle now drifts soundlessly into a chasm of shining crystal and stone, then beneathe the planet's surface to emerge in a colossal subsurface cavern. The darkness is eternal here, with only the infralites of your craft showing an immense liquid ocean of black and dark greens. Flashes of glowing light illumine from under the slowly sloshing waves. Underwater giants give this world an eerie atmosphere.

At the cave's exit, you can see that both of MERCTEP'S stars have drooped low on the horizon and their strange light seeps between the bioluminescent grasses of the Maois Prarie. These thick, wobbly grasses weave slowly, while feeling their way to prey on the multitude of insectlike inhabitants. The dark wailing of far off Lurrn can be heard in your external sensory monitors.

Next, you travel to the Luculent Olgaela Dunes. There, the sorrowful yet melodic tunes of the drifting jellyfish like Soirans hum between the subtle winds. Their movement is so slow as if to almost be still in the air. The sands are made from millions of years of crumbling crystals and are so refelctive that they are impossible to gaze directly upon during the solar day.

Leaving the continent of Olgaela behind, your craft rises above another liquid ocean as the atmosphere generates one of the numerous evening storms. The air becomes murkier with gases and insect forms that thrive in the humid warmth of the half-night. One crimson star sits at the horizon, waiting patiently for it's sister star to arise at morningtide.

Now, you are instructed to return to your harnessed seat to prepare to shift into orbit. Quietly, the machines prepare your hyperchamber for another long rest and then the eternal expanse of silent space.
